Liquid & Foam Termiticide Applications

Pest control professionals use a wide range of termite application equipment (sometimes called termite spray equipment) to prevent and treat termite infestations in homes. Termiticides, which control termite populations, come in both liquid and foam formulations. When choosing equipment and techniques for termiticide application, a professional will consider the type and concentration of product, as well as your home's construction and signs of infestation.

Experts apply materials in a targeted manner, using the least amount of materials necessary for control - termiticides are not sprayed.

Termite Spray Pump
A tank and pump system is the primary means for applying liquid and foam termiticides. Termiticide is pumped from a tank through a long hose that can withstand high pressure. Nozzle attachments allow the termite control expert to customize the application based on the receiving material (soil or wood) and depth required to control the colony. Since this application is targeted to exact specifications, materials are not actually sprayed - they are applied in set amounts.

The various nozzles have valves and seals, which can control the flow of termiticide. For example, the nozzle used to inject termiticide into a hole in a concrete slab floor has a seal that prevents backflow and helps force the termiticide into the ground. Pest management professionals are trained to identify the right amount of termiticide required for effective control. Because the soil provides resistance, a heavy-duty pump system is needed to create the right amount of pressure to inject the termiticide into the soil.

Experts also can use rods to inject termiticides into the soil around and under a home. These rods are pipes that are pushed into the soil to direct the termiticide to a location below ground. Small rods can be used to inject termiticide into walls, including the voids in concrete block walls.

How To Spray for Termites

Treating for subterranean termites requires equipment and control products. For liquid treatment for the soil, a trench is made along the foundation and a pressurized rod injects control liquid into the trench prior to replacing soil.

Most Common Termite Sprays

Today's liquid soil termite control products are either repellent to termites so as to shield the home or nonrepellent which allows the termite to be exposed to the control product without realizing it. There are also wood treatments such as borates which are applied to wood.

What to Spray for Termites

There is an array of products availabe for control of termites. For subterranean termites, the most common method is a liquid soil treatment. Baits and wood treatments are also used. For drywood termites, fumigation using sulfuryl fluoride is the most common control method.
